Abstract

Objective: to analyze the accuracy of two clinical scores, Wang Bronchiolitis Severity Score – WBSS and Kristjansson Respiratory Score – KRS, regarding the need for mechanical ventilation (MV) and prediction of hospitalization time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Methods: descriptive retrospective cohort study. Data from patients aged 29 days to 2 years old, hospitalized with Acute viral bronchiolitis (AVB) from January 2022 to May 2022 in the PICU of a tertiary hospital in Brasília, were used, respecting the inclusion and exclusion criteria for selection of the sample. Results: no statistically significant values were found in the correlation between the WBSS and KRS values and the use of IMV, nor was it found in the correlation of the scales with the average hospitalization time of children in the PICU. Conclusion: this study attempts to use emergency care scores for the first time to evaluate patients in the PICU. However, it was observed that they present low accuracy for this assessment.
