Index and causes for cancellation of elective surgeries in the public management segment of the Federal District.

Introduction: The cancellation of elective surgeries is a multifactorial problem that is linked to clinical and organizational causes, generating unfavorable consequences for health services, staff and patients.
Objective: To identify the rate of cancellation of surgeries in the public network of district general hospitals. Method:Estudio transversal con abordaje retrospectivo, cubriendo cancelaciones de cirugías electivas previamente programadas. Results: In the year under study, 17,754 elective surgeries were scheduled in the centers studied. Of these, 2803 were canceled, resulting in an ICCE of 15.78%. Conclusion: The findings made it possible to read (situational analysis) about assistance in elective surgeries in the SES-DF network and made it possible to identify weaknesses.
