Challenges to the systematization of perioperative nursing care: integrative review

Abstract

Objective: To describe, from the literature, the main challenges associated with the competent organization of care for surgical patients through the systematization of perioperative nursing care. Method: this is an integrative literature review between the years 2011 to 2021 in the Bdenf, Lilacs and Scielo databases; with the Health Sciences Descriptors “perioperative nursing” and “nursing care” and “Nursing Care Systematization”. Results: fourteen articles that met the eligibility criteria were included. After categorizing the challenges to the implementation of Systematization, the following themes emerged: hospital organizational structure; administrative activities of nurses; and the nursing team's lack of knowledge about the systematization of perioperative nursing care. Conclusion: the topic of systematization of perioperative care is rarely addressed in the literature in the area. It was observed that the administrative issues of nursing practice, the lack of knowledge of the nursing staff and the hospital operating structure are the main challenges for its implementation.
