Quality of life of type 2 diabetic patients using the SF-36: an integrative review

Abstract

ABSTRACT:

Introduction: Diabetes is a chronic disease that is on the rise, with increasing numbers of diagnoses in several countries. Living with diabetes leads to the need for greater health care, dietary changes, and changes in the social life of individuals, which can negatively affect health-related defined as an individual's perception of physical, emotional, and social well-being. Objective: To analyze the quality of life of patients with diabetes mellitus through an integrative review, using the internationally reliable instrument, the SF-36. Methodology: A search was conducted for articles published between 2016 and 2021 in the Pubmed and VHL databases, using the following terms: "Diabetes" AND "quality of life" AND "SF-36". 14 studies were included in this integrative review, with a total sample size of 7727 people.  Conclusions: Diabetes affected the quality of life of individuals and sociodemographic factors were significant in this reduction. Among the domains analyzed, general health status was the most impaired. Further studies are needed to better elucidate these.
