ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION: Dengue infection has a wide clinical spectrum and ranges from milder symptoms to more severe forms. Splenic rupture is a serious and rare complication of dengue and its pathophysiology is not well understood. OBJECTIVE: To report the case of a patient who was diagnosed with dengue and evolved with splenic rupture that resulted in hemorrhagic shock and required surgical management. DESCRIPTION: J.S.S., 33 years old, male, with a previous diagnosis of Dengue, developed a complaint of sudden intense abdominal pain and hypotension. He performed a CT scan of the abdomen which suggested hemorrhage. The patient underwent splenectomy. CONCLUSION: The early diagnosis of splenic rupture is essential for a favorable clinical outcome, with a significant reduction in morbidity and mortality, as presented in the clinical case.
