Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the profile of patients with congenital heart disease admitted to a ward of a reference hospital in the Federal District. Methods: a descriptive, retrospective study, with quantitative variables, based on the medical records of patients admitted to the Hospital Materno Infantil de Brasília, Distrito Federal, whose reason for hospitalization was due to heart disease or related disease. Results: infants (0-2 years) were responsible for 93% of hospitalizations. Of those evaluated, 54% were underweight for their age and 38% were underweight. Respiratory causes proved to be the main reason for decompensation and the need for readmissions, being responsible for 75% of the total readmissions in the period. Conclusion: the level of complexity of patients with congenital heart diseases justifies the need for a specialized and trained multidisciplinary team, as well as infrastructure and supplies compatible with the demands.
