Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disease of the peripheral nervous system. Characterized by an ascending and symmetrical paralysis, associated with areflexia or hyporeflexia. The case report concerns a 16-year-old male patient. Admitted to the Hospital Regional de Sobradinho in the Federal District (HRS), he presented motor impairment in the lower and upper limbs for four days, progressing to dysarthria and dysphagia for two days, and report of suspected upper airway infection for around 3 weeks. prior to symptoms. During hospitalization, a lumbar puncture was performed on the patient and 10 ml of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was removed, with proteinorrhachia (473 protein) and absence of leukocytes (0), with no changes in bacterioscopy, cultures, Genexpert, fungi, in the VDRL, characterizing a protein-cellular dissociation. Electroneuromyography of the upper limbs was performed in favor of GBS. The patient was treated with intravenous immunoglobulin with clinical improvement and was discharged with referral for motor rehabilitation. This is a presentation of GBS in a young patient, with a severe form due to the evolution of muscle weakness and symptoms of dysphagia with a good therapeutic response to immunoglobulin.
