In Brazil, there are successful experiences of Interprofessional Education in isolated regions: Brasília, Ceará, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Norte and Rio Grande do Sul; started in the 1990s. Despite international and governmental incentives for interprofessional health education since the 1960s, this practice has not yet been established and needs to stop constituting isolated educational experiences, verified only in Education through Work Programs (PET Saúde), in undergraduate and residency programs, to recover the practice of all areas of concentration in the health sciences.

Few health policies encourage the training of professionals capable of practicing interprofessionalism. However, when students enter the Unified Health System (SUS) job market as professionals, such competence is required during their performance, both in assistance and preventive care.

During the worldwide pandemic for coronavirus, we observed that professionals from different categories have carried out scientific studies in the search for vaccines, effective treatments, and those who are, even insecure, on the front line of assistance to the population of the Unified Health System who need also be highlighted. Lack of implementation of collaborative practices and interprofessionality in undergraduate courses exposed the failures of teaching in the health field, however, during the pandemic that caused SARS-COV-2, it has been observed that teamwork has supported emotionally several professionals who are in the fight against coronavirus.

In these and other issues of the HRJ (Health Residencies Journal), successful experiences and good practices adopted by Residency Programs from all over Brazil in the organization of health services in Reference Teams will be presented, as a way to stimulate and increase collaboration between disciplines and professions, aiming at comprehensive health care, in all epidemiological situations.
